We are situated on Polruan Quay, mere yards from the Fowey/Poluran foot ferry.

Coming to visit Polruan from Fowey by car?

Take the Boddinick Ferry from Fowey and follow the signposts from there.

Travelling from further afield?

From the M5 in Devon the Fowey Estuary is reached by either the A30 or the A38/A390.

From West Cornwall the area is best reached by using the A390.

Please note our directions may use a different route to that shown by satellite navigation, this is to avoid narrow, single track lanes where congestion can easily occur.

From the A30 leave at the Bodmin exit following signs for Lostwithiel, B3268 / B3269.

Take the B3269 towards Lostwithiel until reaching the T-junction with the A390.

Turn left onto the A390 and continue through the town for about one mile.

Turn right into Cott Rd, continue to the junction, go straight across into Lanwithan Rd.

Continue through Lerryn (approximately five miles).

Continue onto St Veep and Penpol and up to the junction (approximately four miles).

At the junction turn right and after about half a mile turn left signed Polruan.

Continue just under two miles to the junction, turn right and continue about two miles into Polruan.

Please note: this route uses some narrow and single track lanes but is the most direct route from the A30, the route from the A38 below uses more main roads and may be preferable.

  • PARKING - there is only one road in and out of Polruan and the car park on the Quay next to the pub is very limited due to the car parks small size.  Instead, we either recommend parking at the top of the hill in Townsend car park, or at the car park on St Saviour's Hill and walking down to the Quayside.   Better yet, come and visit us on the ferry and you'll be dropped out right outside The Lugger!

The Polruan passenger ferry is run by C. Tom's & Son and operates a continuous daily service between Polruan and Fowey.

In addition to providing an essential link across Fowey harbour for residents and tourists, the service gives access to popular local walks such as the Hall Walk and the South West Coast Footpath.

The ferry operates every day of the year apart from Christmas Day, and runs continuously during service hours, departing each side of the harbour approximately every 10 – 15 minutes.  Running times are listed below.  Any unusual changes to the scheduled running times e.g. during periods of bad weather are posted on the Polruan Ferry Facebook page.

Dogs, bicycles and pushchairs are all welcome but please be aware that the ferry is accessed by steps at each landing point. The ferry staff will do their best to assist with pushchairs, wherever possible.

In Polruan, the ferry departs from Polruan Quay only a few yards for our front door.  During the winter months and summer evenings, the service runs to Town Quay which in the centre of Fowey (opposite Haveners Restaurant).  During the summer months, due to the tide, the daytime service runs to Whitehouse slipway which is situated on the Esplanade and a few minutes’ walk from Fowey’s main shopping street.

Visiting Fowey out of season?  Here's a handy local tip: in winter months, you can arrange for a 'late ferry' to operate outside of normal hours and take you back to Fowey

Just ask the ferryman on duty that day to arrange it. The fee is approximately £20.
